Raul H. Castro, was born June 12, 1916, in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. Castro was an alumnus of the University of Arizona, having earned a J.D. from the College of Law in 1949. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador (1964-1968) and Bolivia (1968-1969), and Argentina (1977-1980). Castro was a judge in Pima County, Arizona, 1955-1964, and elected Governor in 1974, making him the first Mexican-American to hold this office in Arizona. Castro passed in 2015 at the age of 99.
